Lighting trends

A number of trends are affecting the lighting industry:

The lighting market is driven by the need for more light, the need for energy-efficient lighting and the need for digital and connected lighting.

The world’s population is forecast to grow from 7 billion to over 9 billion by 2050. At the same time, we are witnessing rapid urbanization with over 70% of the world’s population expected to live in urban areas by 2050. These trends will increase demand for light.

In the face of resource constraints and climate change, the world needs light to be energy-efficient. At the same time, the lighting industry is moving from conventional to LED lighting. Digital technologies enable connectivity, allowing light points to be used as information pathways. This is opening up opportunities for innovative use of light as well as services based on the transmission and analysis of connected lighting data.
